Adventure 4WD Hire in Rainbow Beach (K'gari, Fraser Island)
World-Heritage Sand Island Adventure
K’gari (Fraser Island) is the world’s largest sand island and one of Australia’s most unique 4WD destinations. From freshwater lakes and ancient rainforests to shipwrecks and ocean beaches, exploring the island by 4WD is the ultimate way to experience its diversity - provided you plan carefully around tides and conditions.
Our K’gari vehicles are based in Rainbow Beach and purpose-built to meet Queensland Parks requirements.
Local highlights & must-see attractions:
75 Mile Beach (Eastern Beach) – the island’s main highway
Boorangoora (Lake McKenzie) – iconic freshwater lake with white silica sand
Eli Creek – fast-flowing freshwater creek
Maheno Shipwreck – historic rusting shipwreck on the beach
Champagne Pools – natural ocean rock pools (conditions permitting)
Central Station – historic logging station and rainforest hub
Wanggoolba Creek – crystal-clear creek through ancient rainforest
Pile Valley – towering satinay forest
Lake Wabby – freshwater lake framed by sand dunes
Kingfisher Bay Resort – west coast access point, jetty and walking tracks
Sample itineraries:
All K’gari itineraries are tide-dependent. Beach driving is not permitted at high tide, and peak-season traffic or track conditions can significantly impact travel times. Hirers must be at camp/ accommodation before sunset.
Single-day K’gari experience (off-peak only)
Single-day hires are available during off-peak periods only and are strictly subject to tide conditions. The length of time spent on the island is determined by the tides on the day, and all single-day hires follow a set itinerary.
Guests can choose one of the following two route options:
Option 1 – Lake McKenzie & Central Station
Eastern Beach driving
Central Station
Wanggoolba Creek boardwalk
Pile Valley rainforest
Boorangoora (Lake McKenzie)
Option 2 – Maheno Shipwreck & Eli Creek
Eastern Beach driving
Maheno Shipwreck
Eli Creek
Due to tidal constraints, not all locations can be accessed on the same day. Departure and return times vary daily and are confirmed prior to pickup.
Single-day hires are best suited to travellers short on time who want a taste of K’gari, while multi-day hires allow for greater flexibility and access to more remote areas of the island.
